Description

This Louis XV Style “Confidant” Sofa is an exceptional and rare piece crafted by the renowned Parisian cabinetmaker A. Hugnet during the late nineteenth century. The work perfectly exemplifies the opulent French revival style through its fluid curves, undulating cabriole frame, and masterfully hand-carved floral and shell motifs.
Designed in a distinctive dual-facing, S-shaped conversational configuration, the seat allows two individuals to sit close together and converse intimately face-to-face. The composition features a sophisticated combination of upholstered diamond-patterned fabric and delicate woven cane panels, all finished with a rich, historic giltwood patina. Preserved in very good antique condition and retaining its authentic manufacturer’s plaque, this rare furniture form offers immense historical significance and an imposing decorative presence for elite private collections.
